Jobs Specialising In Book Design

Because I was really intrigued by the penguin book design assistant job (and because I felt like this would be a lovely area in which to specialise) I opted to look into more jobs revolving around book illustration.

Jobs 1- Internship

This internship requires skills that I have (except for quark which is some kind of digital publishing software I have never heard of). All of their requirements match my skill set but it is still an internship and I can't say I am particularly inspired by the kind of stuff they are involved in making. I appreciate that I can't be picky but considering its an internship as well I don't think its one that I would apply for. If I did find an internship at a company that I thought were really cool then of course I would apply!Having said this the job is for a children's book illustrator which as stated previously is my kind of job.

Job 2
The little brown book design job is another job that really appeals to me it just combines two of my favourite things reading and drawing (which is why I am particularly enamoured by the book design sector). The skills it requires: highly creative, conceptual thinking, high quality design solutions are all ones that I possess. However it also alludes to publishing experience and awareness of relevant markets and it requires me to send samples of published works - which would suggest that they are looking for someone who has a bit more knowledge than I do. Although I recognise this - I may apply anyway - since it also states that job title and salary will be dependent upon experience. Its definitely one to apply for and its not like it would hurt.

Because I plan on applying for this one - I have followed them on Twitter and Facebook in the hopes that I can glean some information over the next few days that I should mention in my cover letter.

 Job 3
The job below is one that is for a slightly higher up position than I am eligible for. I've included it just to show that once I get some experience under my belt I could apply for a job like this. I also wanted to have a look at the elements that tell me that this is a job outside of my skill range.

Clue number 1- Outside of my salary range - and a junior designer/illustrator I would expect by salary to be either experience based or around the 18000 mark

Clue number 2- The term briefing illustrators- something that only a senior designer would be able to do

Clue number 3- Three years experience
